It always amazes me <strong>how</strong> <strong>job</strong> hunters fall <strong>in</strong><strong>to</strong> the same old traps th<strong>at</strong> can damage their campaign <strong>work</strong>. You should avoid these fundamental mistakes th<strong>at</strong> can sabotage your <strong>job</strong> search campaign, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>, .1. Writ<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  a resume no one wants <strong>to</strong> read! Your CV can not focus on you and your past! The employers must s<strong>how</strong> <strong>how</strong> you can make a difference for them <strong>to</strong> go forward.</p>
<p>They could care less about your career goals and <strong>job</strong> objectives, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>, . If your <strong>work</strong> his<strong>to</strong>ry, for, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  th<strong>at</strong> m<strong>at</strong>ter. UNLESS you can s<strong>how</strong> them <strong>how</strong> it affects, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  their bot<strong>to</strong>m l<strong>in</strong>e. And remember, employers buy YOU. . . not your, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  CV! Your CV should be used as a bus<strong>in</strong>ess card after you meet someone.</p>
<p>2. Wast<strong>in</strong>g your time on <strong>job</strong>s advertised. If you have a long and pa<strong>in</strong>ful <strong>job</strong> search campaign, keep answer<strong>in</strong>g ads, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  and visit<strong>in</strong>g agencies. Why? Remember competition? You&#39;re tak<strong>in</strong>g you right <strong>in</strong> the, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  middle, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  of it where everyone is.Now I&#39;m not say<strong>in</strong>g th<strong>at</strong> you can eventually get a <strong>job</strong> this way.</p>
<p>But if you want a substantial MOVE and do it FAST, this is certa<strong>in</strong>ly not the way <strong>to</strong> go.3. Shot Gunn<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  your CV. The theory goes someth<strong>in</strong>g like this: if I throw enough paper <strong>in</strong> the market,, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  the law of averages has <strong>to</strong> <strong>work</strong> for me. <strong>At</strong> some po<strong>in</strong>t, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  someone will want me.</p>
<p>WRONG! The only law <strong>at</strong>, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  <strong>work</strong> here is th<strong>at</strong> the pr<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g and post office and <strong>job</strong> search websites rich.Don go <strong>to</strong> waste &quot;time you get <strong>to</strong> send a resume if it does not, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  specifically addressed. Wide distribution of your resume is the least productive way <strong>to</strong> look <strong>at</strong> a <strong>job</strong>.</p>
<p>4. Non follow-up. Do not even bother with a <strong>job</strong> search campaign web site if you do not plan <strong>to</strong> follow up personally &#8211; by phone and mail. It&#39;s th<strong>at</strong> old th<strong>in</strong>g aga<strong>in</strong>.You, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  competition, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  <strong>to</strong> get your foot <strong>in</strong> the door first, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>, . And do not expect an <strong>in</strong>terview <strong>to</strong> lead <strong>to</strong> noth<strong>in</strong>g if you do not follow up the phone and letter.</p>
<p>5. Wait<strong>in</strong>g for the phone <strong>to</strong> r<strong>in</strong>g. Is there anyth<strong>in</strong>g worse than wait<strong>in</strong>g nervously for someone important <strong>to</strong> you <strong>to</strong> call back. . . especially if you th<strong>in</strong>k they should? If your <strong>at</strong>titude is:, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  &quot;I have gre<strong>at</strong> credentials, gre<strong>at</strong> experience, an excellent <strong>work</strong>, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  his<strong>to</strong>ry was .</p>
<p>.. so here I am &#8211; come get me!&quot;. . . you are, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  <strong>in</strong> for a long, long search for a <strong>job</strong>. You have <strong>to</strong> take the <strong>in</strong>iti<strong>at</strong>ive. Pick up the phone and f<strong>in</strong>d out wh<strong>at</strong> happen<strong>in</strong>g.6. <strong>In</strong>terview<strong>in</strong>g like a wimp. Look, you only get one shot <strong>at</strong> the person, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  could be your next boss.</p>
<p>Better <strong>to</strong> look like a pro. Th<strong>at</strong> means: be prepared. . . be practiced. . . assertive. If you are not, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  <strong>in</strong> control, <strong>job</strong>s, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  <strong>in</strong>,  of the <strong>in</strong>terview process&#39;RE OUT! This is a good time <strong>to</strong> re-evalu<strong>at</strong>e your <strong>job</strong> campaign. And make a course correction and <strong>to</strong>gether a new plan th<strong>at</strong> the major pitfalls <strong>to</strong> avoid.</p>

<strong>In</strong> recent weeks several of my clients have asked my help <strong>in</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g them a new <strong>job</strong>. They each have different reasons for want<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> change <strong>job</strong>s. Some want more money. Some are not comfortable with the f<strong>in</strong>ancial, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  health of their current employer. And, I have a client and a recent entry, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  &quot;outplaced&quot;, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  client only need <strong>to</strong> <strong>work</strong>.</p>
<p>F<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g a <strong>job</strong> is not necessarily th<strong>at</strong> hard, but f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g the right <strong>job</strong> has <strong>to</strong> be a plan. There, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  was a time <strong>in</strong> the recent past, when people simply would resume hunt<strong>in</strong>g rifle or respond <strong>to</strong> every <strong>job</strong> she saw. This method does <strong>work</strong>, but it is much more pa<strong>in</strong>ful <strong>in</strong> terms of time, and success.</p>
<p>If you th<strong>in</strong>k about it, you hit the right company <strong>at</strong> the right time look<strong>in</strong>g for your credentials. Bet you seem a bit disappo<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g. So, it is best <strong>to</strong> make a plan, and your <strong>work</strong> plan, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>, .The first rule of thumb th<strong>at</strong> people should know the <strong>job</strong> search is th<strong>at</strong>, if not scientifically, you can expect <strong>to</strong> spend approxim<strong>at</strong>ely $ 10,000 per months of salary on the hunt for th<strong>at</strong> new <strong>job</strong>.</p>
<p>If you have a quick calcul<strong>at</strong>ion,, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  th<strong>at</strong> means it would take approxim<strong>at</strong>ely 6 months of <strong>job</strong> search<strong>in</strong>g, send<strong>in</strong>g resumes, and <strong>in</strong>terview<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  with a $ 60,000 <strong>job</strong>. Th<strong>at</strong> is quite long, so it is important th<strong>at</strong> you organized, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>, .</p>
<p>The reason is th<strong>at</strong> more competition for these <strong>job</strong>s, and as sales, you must f<strong>in</strong>d <strong>work</strong> <strong>to</strong> fill pipe l<strong>in</strong>e. It takes a while for companies and recruiters <strong>to</strong> know th<strong>at</strong> your labor and for them <strong>to</strong> receive and filter the hundreds if not thousands of resumes they receive.Second, depend<strong>in</strong>g on the st<strong>at</strong>us of your current <strong>job</strong>, look<strong>in</strong>g for a <strong>job</strong> can be a full-time, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  <strong>job</strong>.</p>
<p>If you are currently employed, you can look <strong>in</strong> part by search<strong>in</strong>g <strong>job</strong>, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  boards, answer<strong>in</strong>g ads, and net<strong>work</strong><strong>in</strong>g, etc. You can <strong>work</strong> with some of the recruiters <strong>in</strong> your <strong>in</strong>dustry, but oper<strong>at</strong>e with more than two or three . S<strong>in</strong>ce you are employed, you can take the time <strong>to</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d a specific <strong>job</strong> by focus<strong>in</strong>g your bus<strong>in</strong>ess, certa<strong>in</strong> companies and certa<strong>in</strong> geographic areas.</p>
<p>If you do not <strong>work</strong>, then you can search for a <strong>job</strong> as full-time <strong>job</strong> <strong>to</strong> handle. Every day you wake up early enough <strong>to</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d your <strong>work</strong> <strong>at</strong> 8:30 <strong>in</strong> the morn<strong>in</strong>g start. You&#39;ve, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  s<strong>how</strong>ered, shaved (if you&#39;re male), and dress <strong>in</strong> cloth<strong>in</strong>g, no swe<strong>at</strong>s or pajamas.</p>
<p>You have <strong>to</strong> <strong>work</strong> your <strong>job</strong> search <strong>to</strong> eight hours a day. You would, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  <strong>work</strong> plan. Example 8:30 <strong>to</strong> 9:30, the <strong>work</strong> of the <strong>job</strong> boards. From 9:30 <strong>to</strong> 10:30 you should check all of the HR-specific sites of your bus<strong>in</strong>ess. From 10:30 <strong>to</strong> noon you, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  have time <strong>to</strong> follow up all your prospects, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>, .</p>
<p>After lunch, phone and e-mail all your friends <strong>to</strong> follow up all leads they have. Ask them <strong>to</strong> contact their colleagues, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  and their HR department, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>, . Many times a company can have an, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  open<strong>in</strong>g, but knows of an open<strong>in</strong>g <strong>at</strong> another company.</p>
<p>Applies <strong>to</strong> any <strong>job</strong> th<strong>at</strong> even close, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  <strong>to</strong> wh<strong>at</strong> you want, and go on <strong>in</strong>terviews. You can practice <strong>in</strong>terview<strong>in</strong>g by go<strong>in</strong>g on <strong>in</strong>terviews for <strong>job</strong>s th<strong>at</strong> do not necessarily want. You need <strong>to</strong> keep your, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  m<strong>in</strong>d active, your <strong>at</strong>titude positive and healthy, and stay connected <strong>to</strong> the market.</p>
<p>Make sure you are happy with everyone you speak with. Nobody wants <strong>to</strong> hear <strong>how</strong> bad it is or your calls will go unanswered and returned.Net<strong>work</strong><strong>in</strong>g is probably not the best way <strong>to</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d a <strong>job</strong>. Actually tell<strong>in</strong>g th<strong>at</strong> means th<strong>at</strong> every person who could help you are look<strong>in</strong>g for <strong>work</strong>. Often a boy is a guy who knows a girl th<strong>at</strong> rent, you can <strong>in</strong>terview a recruiter does, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  not know which one.</p>
<p>I can not stress, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  enough the value of net<strong>work</strong>s. <strong>Work</strong><strong>in</strong>g people know where the opportunities are and hear them first, so make sure your net<strong>work</strong> of friends and colleagues th<strong>at</strong> you know their help.Keep your current CV. Do not, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>,  wait until the last moment <strong>to</strong> throw <strong>to</strong>gether, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>, .</p>
<p>You will also <strong>how</strong> quickly your responsibilities change every six months surprised, <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>job</strong>, . For example, you learned a new computer, you particip<strong>at</strong>e <strong>in</strong> the tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, you were part of a committee th<strong>at</strong> developed a new process? S<strong>to</strong>p and smell the roses <strong>to</strong> see wh<strong>at</strong> you have achieved s<strong>in</strong>ce you last upd<strong>at</strong>ed your resume.</p>

Older <strong>work</strong>ers Net <strong>Work</strong>Gee whiz! I never thought th<strong>at</strong> I should f<strong>in</strong>d a <strong>job</strong>aga<strong>in</strong>,, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  but I do. Funny th<strong>at</strong> nobody taught me or <strong>to</strong>ld th<strong>at</strong> sav<strong>in</strong>gs do not, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  last forever. I am <strong>in</strong> the &quot;pickle!&quot; Besides sav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong>uch, I feel better <strong>work</strong>! This idea goes back <strong>to</strong> the gra<strong>in</strong> of American culture.</p>
<p>People of a certa<strong>in</strong> age are encouraged <strong>to</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d fun th<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>to</strong> do and not <strong>work</strong> <strong>at</strong> a <strong>job</strong>! American <strong>Job</strong>s is a dirty word! But I want <strong>to</strong> feel productive, earn money, around younger people and have some fun times <strong>WORK</strong>.Heck, I have no time <strong>to</strong> th<strong>in</strong>k about the culture I am, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  <strong>in</strong>.</p>
<p>I am older, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  and I have a <strong>job</strong> live! Wh<strong>at</strong> can I do <strong>to</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d a <strong>job</strong> <strong>to</strong> do? Before I get started <strong>in</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  a <strong>job</strong>, I&#39;m, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  just afraid th<strong>at</strong> nobody will hire me. I&#39;ve heard many s<strong>to</strong>ries over the age discrim<strong>in</strong><strong>at</strong>ionand I do not want <strong>to</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d a <strong>job</strong> where someone tell<strong>in</strong>g me th<strong>at</strong> I over-qualified,, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  only <strong>to</strong> get rid of me because I am old.</p>
<p>I know it takes only one employer <strong>to</strong> hire me, not half a dozen times, but I can see more than my share of discussions with employers <strong>to</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d someth<strong>in</strong>g th<strong>in</strong>kis! <strong>How</strong> can I do? I th<strong>in</strong>k I better not th<strong>in</strong>k about <strong>how</strong> this is go<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong>be hard and concentr<strong>at</strong>e on f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g employers who will want <strong>to</strong> hire me.</p>
<p>It takes only one <strong>to</strong> be afraid if I take <strong>in</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g a <strong>job</strong>, because I have gray hair, then I search th<strong>at</strong> much harder &amp; make me feel useless. I th<strong>in</strong>k I should talk <strong>to</strong> someone about my plans for a <strong>job</strong>. I can talk <strong>to</strong> Bob, my cous<strong>in</strong>, Carol, my cous<strong>in</strong> about wh<strong>at</strong> I want <strong>to</strong> do a <strong>job</strong>.</p>
<p>They are always friendly and helpful <strong>to</strong> me <strong>in</strong> the past. I&#39;ll let you know soon. They make me proud of who I am and my age.Talk<strong>in</strong>g is about good, but I also need direction on wh<strong>at</strong> <strong>to</strong> do. Where can I talk <strong>to</strong> others aboutmy situ<strong>at</strong>ion?, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  I check the phone book first.I ve n &#39;<strong>to</strong>ok some, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  agencies.</p>
<p>I know their hours <strong>to</strong> ask for <strong>in</strong>form<strong>at</strong>ion over the phone. I&#39;m go<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  <strong>to</strong> sign one or two. I got the two agencies. They recommended th<strong>at</strong> I have some computer lessons, which they offer for a fee. I can not asI&#39;m afraid of spend<strong>in</strong>g more of my sav<strong>in</strong>gs.The people <strong>in</strong> these places does not seem <strong>to</strong> help me <strong>in</strong> other ways.</p>
<p>The phone does not help me much, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  with people or places th<strong>at</strong> can help me f<strong>in</strong>d a <strong>job</strong>. Th<strong>in</strong>kI&#39;ll I look <strong>in</strong> the Help Wanted columns of, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  my local newspaper for a <strong>job</strong>. A, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  number of <strong>job</strong>s th<strong>at</strong> I can do <strong>in</strong> the m paper.I &#39;so confused about read<strong>in</strong>g these ads.</p>
<p>Noth<strong>in</strong>g seems <strong>to</strong> fit me. I&#39;ve never been much of a <strong>work</strong> his<strong>to</strong>ry, all <strong>in</strong> &amp;, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  out of seasonal farm <strong>work</strong>.I never thought it was, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  a ecessary careers. I&#39;ve barely out of high school when I had <strong>to</strong> <strong>work</strong>. My family just <strong>work</strong>ed with everyth<strong>in</strong>g th<strong>at</strong> came.</p>
<p>So did I. One of my neighbors said I should go <strong>to</strong> <strong>Work</strong> Source. I had never heard of this place.I eventually, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  went <strong>to</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d out wh<strong>at</strong> I coulddo a <strong>job</strong>. Omeone When I have <strong>to</strong> help me from there,, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  I, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  was <strong>in</strong> a <strong>job</strong> club for older <strong>work</strong>ers.</p>
<p>There were about 12 of us <strong>in</strong> the room <strong>job</strong>club. Some were older than me and some were younger. The <strong>in</strong>struc<strong>to</strong>r, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  <strong>in</strong> this <strong>job</strong> club was one of the employees of this agency. It was def<strong>in</strong>itely, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  an eye-opener <strong>to</strong> be there. I w<strong>at</strong>ched some of the, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  others who were there and compared with those who, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  looked older self, who looked younger, who had an <strong>at</strong>titude <strong>to</strong> give up and those who f<strong>in</strong>d someth<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> do.</p>
<p>I wanted, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  <strong>to</strong>be one of those f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g a real <strong>job</strong>. I decided then and there <strong>to</strong> get a new haircut, get outmy best clothes, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  <strong>to</strong> wear and,, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  try, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  some weight.Th<strong>at</strong> loss could help <strong>in</strong> mak<strong>in</strong>g me look younger than, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  the people <strong>in</strong> this group.</p>
<p>If I can manage better then I might feel, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  more <strong>job</strong>.The a chance <strong>to</strong> get <strong>in</strong><strong>to</strong>, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  the <strong>job</strong> club <strong>in</strong>struc<strong>to</strong>r wished whywe know were there. Everyone had their s<strong>to</strong>ry.I could not tell <strong>how</strong> th<strong>at</strong> was help<strong>in</strong>g me out. I would enjoy listen<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> some of the others talk about their backgrounds.</p>
<p>One of them was a former teacher who thought she knew everyth<strong>in</strong>g, but still, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  didn&#39;thave a <strong>job</strong>.The <strong>in</strong>struc<strong>to</strong>r gave us a lot of m<strong>at</strong>erial about who else <strong>in</strong> the community can help me and others f<strong>in</strong>d a <strong>job</strong>. Now I see some others, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  th<strong>at</strong> I can call for help. Sure, an appeal <strong>to</strong> others for help is good, but I have a <strong>job</strong>.</p>
<p>I did not, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  th<strong>in</strong>k a <strong>job</strong> search would be this hard. I had the courage <strong>to</strong> talk <strong>to</strong> the <strong>in</strong>struc<strong>to</strong>r on <strong>how</strong> <strong>to</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d a <strong>job</strong>.She asked me wh<strong>at</strong> my skills, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  and, <strong>job</strong>s <strong>in</strong>,  I wh<strong>at</strong>was look<strong>in</strong>g.</p>
